Microsoft announced WebsiteSpark

Microsoft announced the availability of WebsiteSpark program as a natural continuation after releasing BizSpark and DreamSpark programs.
The program targets small entrepreneurial teams up to 10 people developing for the web. The program will get you with the tools in order to provide service in web site design and development. Considering the up coming Visual Studio 2010 release, I strongly recommend this program if you are starting a new web site development business.

Read S. Somasegar’s post, Microsoft Senior Vice President - Developer Devision, about the decision behind creation of WebsiteSpark program.

Here are the software licenses that you will receive by joining WebsiteSpark.

For design, development, testing and demonstration of new websites – for a total of up to three users per Web design and development company:

• Visual Studio Professional
• Expression Studio 2 or 3 (1 user) and Expression Web 2 or 3 (up to 2 users)
• Windows Web Server 2008 or R2 (when available)
• SQL Server 2008 Web Edition

For production use – that is, to deploy and host new websites developed using Program software – using a total of up to four processors per Web design and development company, of the following (physical or virtual) dedicated servers:

• Windows Web Server 2008 R2 (when available)
• SQL Server 2008 Web Edition

If you are interested, please read to WebsiteSpark Program Guide as it contains complete information about this program.

Joining to WebsiteSpark and BizSpark is done through Network Partners.

Network Partners are active members of the local software ecosystem, who promote and support software-based Web sites and businesses, through hosting or other business services, technical and business advice, networking, mentoring, peer connections, or other resources and services.

kulov.net is a registered Network Partner and is entitled for approval and registration process for BizSpark and WebsiteSpark programs.

Project Server 2010 First Look Video

Microsoft announced the new Microsoft Project 2010 on Microsoft Project Conference in Phoenix.

Check out the amazing First Look demos of Microsoft Project 2010 and Project Server 2010. Most important – ActiveX controls are history now, MS Project looks to be much more agile planning tool, MS Project Server will have integration with TFS 2010 and Navision AX, and Portfolio Server is integrated in Project Server 2010.

Looks like a completely new product now. Register in order to be updated when the Beta program is available.

Deploying PWA 2007

If you are about to deploy Project Server 2007 and more specifically Project Web Access 2007 for the very first time, then you need the following guides.

Walkthrough: Deploy Project Server 2007 to a server farm environment
This is a four part video that shows how to install Project Server in a new WSS environment. Pay attention to Part III:

Part III describes how to add additional PWA sites, including:

  • Creating a PWA site with empty databases

  • Creating a PWA site that connects to restored databases

Creating PWA site that connects to a restored database is especially important part. It comes into the game when you need to do Disaster Recovery of PWA 2007 site from my previous post.

The cool thing about the walkthrough is that not only the video will show you a real demo how to do that, but also there are .docx and .pdf documents with all the steps in the demo which you can follow one by one after the demo.

If you need to deploy Project Server 2007 or PWA 2007 site in an existing MOSS installation, use the Deploy Project Server 2007 to an existing deployment of Office SharePoint Server 2007.

To use a brand new MOSS installation, use the Deploy Office SharePoint Server 2007 and Office Project Server 2007 to a new environment guide.

If you only need to move a PWA database to a new, dedicated, standalone WSS content database, use the Extract Project Web Access site data to a new content database guide.
